Gogoro Inc., Taiwan’s leading maker of battery-swappable electric scooters, and global semiconductor giant TSMC have unveiled new initiatives aimed at enhancing clean energy transportation across the island. These include the deployment of 15 new GoStations that operate entirely on clean energy and the introduction of the GoShare scooter sharing service and expansion of the Gogoro Network in Hsinchu, where TSMC’s headquarters are located.
Gogoro GoStations allow riders to swap the battery of their electric scooter when it is running low rather than having to take time out to charging. The stations can be found all over Taiwan’s major urban areas next to convenience stores and other easily accessible locations. These 15 new stations are the first ones to be powered entirely by renewable energy sources, and will no doubt pave the way to further deployments in the future.
Gogoro’s GoShare sharing service allows subscribers to ride a scooter whenever they need to without having to purchase one. The introduction of the service in Hsinchu, together with additional improvements to the Gogoro network covering the city, will make it easier for people to commute between places where access to public transportation is limited.
Horace Luke, the founder and CEO of Gogoro, emphasized the importance of industry leadership in advancing green transportation practices, and highlighted the collective role of businesses and individuals in adopting sustainable solutions. Similarly, Lora Ho, Senior Vice President and ESG Committee Chairperson at TSMC, spoke of the company’s commitment to addressing climate change challenges and its efforts to foster a net-zero future.
Gogoro’s network, which encompasses more than 600,000 vehicles across 45 cities worldwide, exemplifies the scale at which battery-swapping technology can influence urban mobility. The network facilitates over 450,000 daily battery swaps, significantly reducing carbon emissions while providing people with an accessible alternative to traditional modes of transport.
The collaboration between Gogoro and TSMC demonstrates the potential of the public and private sectors working together to ensure sustainable urban development by broadening the accessibility and convenience of green transportation options for the local population.
