As competition in the mobile AI chip market heats up, Arm has introduced its new Arm Compute Subsystems (CSS) for Client in tandem with Arm Kleidi Sofware to enable its customers to speed up time to market for new designs.
Arm CSS for Client integrates the benefits of the Armv9 architecture with ready-to-produce implementations of the latest CPUs and GPUs on 3nm process nodes. This highly integrated approach enables Arm’s silicon partners to innovate rapidly and bring products to market faster.
The CSS for Client features the next-generation Cortex-X925 CPU and Immortalis-G925 GPU, which offer significant performance enhancements. According to Arm, the Cortex-X925 CPU delivers a 36% increase in single-thread performance over 2023 smartphone flagship 4nm SoCs as well as a 41% performance increase for on-device generative AI applications, such as large language models. The Immortalis-G925 GPU provides a 37% uplift in graphics performance across leading mobile gaming applications as well as 34 percent more performance when measured over multiple AI and ML networks.
In tandem with the CSS for Client, Arm has also introduced the Kleidi software suite, which includes KleidiAI for AI workloads and KleidiCV for computer vision applications. KleidiAI offers developers a set of compute kernels that seamlessly integrate with popular AI frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, and MediaPipe, accelerating the performance of key models like Meta Llama 3 and Phi-3. Kleidi is also designed to be backwards and forwards compatible, ensuring future-proof development as new technologies emerge.
By combining the latest advances in CPU and GPU technology with robust software support in a ready-to-produce package, Arm is aiming to establish itself as the leading silicon platform for the next generation of AI-enabled mobile devices. With support from major industry players including MediaTek, Samsung, TSMC, and Intel Foundry Services, the company is certainly moving in the right direction.
