AMD Chair and CEO Lisa Su unveiled the company’s next-generation AMD Ryzen™ AI 300 Series processors for Microsoft Copilot+ laptops and AMD Ryzen™ 9000 Series desktop processors during her opening keynote at Computex 2024.
AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series processors are designed to bring advanced AI experiences to thin and light CoPilot+ mobile devices and feature the world’s most powerful Neural Processing Unit (NPU) delivering 50 TOPS (trillions of operations per second) compared to 45 TOPS for the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Series.
Built on the new AMD XDNA™ 2 architecture, AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series processors integrate up to 12 high-performance “Zen 5” CPU cores and 24 threads, along with 50% more on-chip L3 cache memory compared to the previous generation. Asus, HP, Lenovo, and MSI are all introducing laptops featuring these processors, with Asus rolling out nearly ten models across its ROG Zephyrus G16, ProArt, Zenbook, Vivobook and TUF Gaming product lines.
AMD Ryzen 9000 Series desktop processors are also based on AMD’s “Zen 5” architecture and are targeted at gamers and professional content creators. With its 16 cores, 32 threads, 80MB cache, and a base frequency of 4.3GHz, AMD is touting the flagship Ryzen 9 9950X as the fastest consumer desktop processor on the market. The accompanying AMD X870E and X870 chipsets add support for PCIe® 5.0, DDR5, USB4, and Wi-Fi 7 to the overall platform.
According to AMD, the new Ryzen 9000 Series desktop processors will be available for DIY customers and SI partners in July 2024.
