Dell Technologies expands Dell AI Factory to accelerate manufacturing innovation

At Dell Technologies World this week, the company announced a major initiative to expand the Dell AI Factory platform in collaboration with Nvidia to streamline and enhance AI adoption across multiple industries.

The initiative includes the launch of the new Dell PowerEdge XE9680L server, which features direct liquid cooling and eight Nvidia Blackwell Tensor Core GPUs. Engineered for high-performance AI tasks, the XE9680L offers the industry’s highest GPU density in a compact 4U form factor and features direct liquid cooling for more effective thermal management. It also provides 33% more GPU density per node compared to its predecessors and offers 20% more PCIe Gen. 5 slots, doubling the network expansion capacity.

Dell is also introducing new turnkey rack-scale solutions to facilitate large GPU-accelerated deployments as part of this expansion initiative. These solutions are available in multiple configurations, including air-cooled designs supporting 64 GPUs in a single rack and liquid-cooled formats featuring 72 NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs in a single rack.

Dell NativeEdge, the first edge orchestration platform to automate the delivery of Nvidia AI Enterprise software, is another key component of the initiative. NativeEdge simplifies the deployment of AI applications at the edge, enabling developers and IT operators to efficiently manage and analyze edge data. This platform supports various use cases, including video analytics with Nvidia Metropolis, speech and translation capabilities with Nvidia Riva, and inference microservices with Nvidia NIM.

To further simplify AI application development and deployment, Dell is rolling out a range of new services, including the new Dell Generative AI Solution for Digital Assistants and Dell Accelerator Services for RAG on Precision AI Workstations.

The new Dell Generative AI Solution for Digital Assistants accelerates the deployment of personalized digital assistants using a full-stack Dell and Nvidia solution. It is complemented by a full set of implementation services that help organizations design, test, and scale the solution.

Dell Accelerator Services for RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) are designed to shorten development cycles and improve application performance by providing a secure environment for experimenting, testing, and prototyping AI and ML projects. These services help organizations quickly develop better-performing AI applications though a tailored large language model using RAG on Dell Precision workstations with Nvidia AI Workbench.

Availability of these new offerings varies, with the Dell PowerEdge XE9680L servers and Dell NativeEdge deployment blueprints for Nvidia expected to be available globally in the second half of 2024. The Generative AI Solution for Digital Assistants and Implementation Services are already available in North America, while the Dell Accelerator Services for RAG on Precision AI Workstations will be available in late May in the United States.
