AMD has added two new processors to its Ryzen 8000 series: the Ryzen 7 8700F and the Ryzen 5 8400F. These processors are designed for budget-conscious gamers and are positioned against Intel’s Core i5 processors. Unlike their “G” series counterparts, the 8700F and 8400F lack integrated graphics, necessitating the use of a dedicated graphics card for gaming.
The Ryzen 7 8700F is an eight-core, 16-thread CPU with a base clock of 4.1GHz and a boost clock of “up to” 5GHz. It also included AMD’s XDNA NPU delivering up to 16 TOPS (tera operations per second), enabling it to handle AI workloads, a feature typically found in more expensive processors. This makes the 8700F a particularly attractive option for users seeking to explore AI applications without making a significant financial investment. The Ryzen 5 8400F is a six-core, 12-thread CPU with a base clock of 4.2GHz but lacks an the XDNA NPU.
Both processors are designed for efficiency, consuming less power than previous generations. If you are looking for a higher performance platform, you would be advised to wait for Computex 2024 where AMD is expected to announce its next-generation Zen 5 Ryzen lineup with more powerful AI capabilities and architectural enhancements.
